Blatantly Barefaced

Here I am at age 56 doing something I never would have imagined - going somewhere without makeup ON PURPOSE!  Somewhere where I know people.  I find it funny and SAD all at the same time.  I have been wearing makeup since I was 12 years old.  For many years it was a mix of wearing it to hide my acne as well as to HIDE myself.  I never thought of myself as pretty.  In fact, I was actually told otherwise.  There was ALWAYS something about me that was not good enough, and I have to admit, I still feel that way quite often.  I am TRYING to overcome that feeling, I really am.  I am purposely, intentionally, mindfully working on the idea, the TRUTHFULNESS, that I am enough, just as I am.  So for me to go out in public without makeup, on purpose, that’s a BIG deal.  But do you know what, I’m not only EMBRACING it, I’m unashamedly going barefaced!

Now you may say, “girl, you ARE wearing makeup, you’ve got mascara on”.  That is true, HOWEVER, I do not consider mascara as makeup.  It’s more of an everyday necessity.  An ESSENTIAL thing to do right up there with brushing my teeth and putting on deodorant.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE wearing makeup.  It can be creative, evens out skin tone, adds a POP of playful color to the lips. But right now, I’m feeling pretty good about my skin.   I just TREATED myself to a “dermaplaning + collagen infusion + gua sha massage” facial and my skin just feels amazing.  It somehow gave me a little barefaced CONFIDENCE boost seeing myself in a different way ~ good enough just as I am, without makeup.  SELF-CARE is incredibly important!  Do something just for you!

Now I know that some women just never wear makeup, nor do they care to.  There’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with that.  Like the quote above from the lovely Lady Gaga, either way I’m still the same person.  I’m still quirky, still hard-working, still PASSIONATE about everything I do, still a crazy-about-my-grandbabies Gigi, still loving on my furbabies, still a beekeeper, still Mama P, …… still ME.  As my shirt says “break the mold, be original”.

I CHALLENGE you to do something you wouldn’t normally do and see how it feels to break your own rules.  It might be going barefaced, it might be wearing jeans to church, it might be wearing tennis shoes with dress clothes, it might be _______ fill in the blank with something you wouldn’t normally do.

Be unashamedly you in a BOLD and daring way.  You might just DISCOVER you like doing things differently - or maybe even just to see if you get a reaction from someone.

Take care of yourself my friends and stay TRUE to you!
