No matter what the date on the calendar says, celebrate whenever you can!

Let’s face it, life is HECTIC! It seems like there is rarely a free moment to just relax. When it comes to holidays, well, that can not only be OVERWHELMING and nerve racking, it can be almost impossible to get everyone together. Everyone has their "place to go” for each holiday and a lot of people become the ROPE in a major tug-of-war event with families on his side and her side - everyone wants you at the same time! You become emotionally and physically exhausted and may even dread or RESENT holidays because of it.

Why are we so fixated on the DATE we celebrate a holiday? Is it because we are told by the calendar that we have to celebrate on a specific day? We don’t do that for birthdays. Unless a birthday happens to fall on a weekend, we generally move the FESTIVITIES to either the weekend before or after. So then why can’t we be more FLEXIBLE with the date we celebrate a holiday? Does it become less meaningful if we don’t obey the specified date on the calendar? I think not!

My husband and I host the 4th of July extravaganza at our home each year, but NEVER on the 4th of July. It has become an almost COMICAL event as to the date to be announced that we will be getting together and celebrate our country’s independence. There is just so much going on that weekend for so many people, it can be incredibly stressful trying to get people together. We try to accommodate as many people as possible and typically have our party the weekend AFTER July 4th, but this year it was . . . . August 5th! LOL Why not? Was it any less meaningful? No. Was it any less a celebration? No. Was it more relaxing for the guests as they didn’t have to feel pulled like taffy as to where to go? A resounding YES!!!

My friends, life is too short to STRESS over the small things in life. What matters is that we enjoy the time we have on Earth with those we love. Celebrate WHENEVER you can, regardless of the date on the calendar. It actually makes the whole SHEBANG more enjoyable!

Here are a couple of dessert items I threw together to observe our country’s independence!
